Bio

Purple Dino were formed in late 2012. Four guys gathered in a rehearsal studio and, after making a couple of changes to the band name, as well as the line-up itself, they ended up to their current form. Short history with some live gigs in their hometown, Xanthi, (among them 1 gig with Universe217), and the opening of the second day of Fuzztastic Planet Festival 2013, but eagering for the future...

Band Members

Mitsos Aggelakis - Percussions
Pavlos Konstantinidis - Guitar, Vocals
Dimitris Gravanis - Guitar
Stefanos Dimou - Bass

Review:

Purple Dino style of Hard Rock and Stoner Metal riffs should win them a loyal following within the Stoner Rock scene. As they have written a highly enjoyable album packed full of great tunes to check out. Their debut album – Jurassic Bar – showcases another great Stoner Rock band from Greece to check out.

If you are a fan of 1000Mods, Planet Of Zeus and NIghtstalker then Purple Dino should rock your world. I featured these guys back in 2013 when I featured their debut EP. It is great to hear that the band have added more volume to their sound as things become very heavy indeed. You will be surprised at how heavy Purple Dino actually get, as they are not afraid to show a lot of love to their Hard Rock/Heavy Metal heroes.

However, it may take you sometime to warm up to lead vocalist Pavlos whose style of vocals feels like he should be singing for a Heavy Metal band and not a Stoner Rock band such as Purple Dino. However, it makes the band standout from the crowd especially when mixing blues based Desert Rock vibes with true Stoner Metal riffage that you will be playing air guitar too all day long. As the music is highly infectious indeed.

The only downside to the album is that the lyrics can a bit repetitive at times but other than that this is a fantastic debut album from a band very highly thought of within the Stoner Rock Community. The band do show a great sense of humour especially on superb track – B.D.O. – which mixes a riff from the classic rock song – Wipe Out. Jurassic Bar is an album that I would not mind staying for last orders and even possibly having a lock-in of some kind.

Jurassic Bar is a heavy fuzz-based experience, which will leave you with a huge smile on your face. Track this album down now. You will not be sorry.

Excellent and Highly Recommended.

Jurassic Bar is available to buy now from BandCamp. If you were one of the lucky people that pre-ordered the Wooden Box Editions then the band are posting them out from July 7th 2014. Thanks to Stef for sending me a promo to review.
